Our institution proudly offers a comprehensive four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Applied Statistics and Data Science program. This innovative curriculum encompasses Applied Statistics and Data Science as the major subjects, complemented by Business Studies as a minor, aligning seamlessly with the vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020.

Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics and Data Science is four-year full time Honours programme designed in the spirit of implementing National Education Policy 2020. The primary focus of this programme is to provide a thriving ecosystem to develop data driven technological solutions based on statistical techniques.

The aim of the programme is to develop a critical awareness of the state-of-the-art in applied statistics and data science field along with business studies understanding and demonstrate the applications with practical skills necessary to critically think and develop solutions which can address short-term and long-term industry business and societal needs.

The four year B.Sc. (Applied Statistics and Data Science) Honours programme, shall offer major as ‘Applied Statistics and Data Science’ subjects along with minor as ‘Business Studies. All modules included are application oriented that facilitates learning statistical methodologies and best practices in statistical analysis. This programme is designed towards lifelong learning by imbibing our ancient and prominent knowledge system in education through the type of courses as- multi-disciplinary, value added, vocational, ability and skill enhancement courses etc. Internships and Industry projects are important components included in this honours programme which will cater for advanced industry required 21st century analytical skills.

Trained human resource development in the areas of applied Statistics and Data Science along with ‘Business Studies’ who can be further trained expeditiously for advanced applied statistical techniques for data analytics is a major goal of this programme. Programme will enable students for better employability in industries like IT, manufacturing, education, finance, healthcare, legal and governance, academics etc.

Duration

48 months, Full-Time Programme
The academic year commences in July/August and continues until end May/June, consisting of six semesters.

Eligibility

Std. XII (10 + 2) pass or equivalent examination from any recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribes), with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

  • Credit Structure :- The allocation of theory and practical credits is contingent on the chosen specialisation.
  • Flexi credit and Value added courses :- Along with assigned credits, the institute also offer min one value added course in each semester. Further, flexi credit courses provide opportunity for students to choose the course which is market driven based on recent trend and requirement of market.
  • Non-Credit Courses :- Besides regular credit courses, the institute offers non-credit courses, including tutorials, hands-on workshops, guest lectures, scientific colloquiums, skill development sessions.
  • Service Learning :- A crucial component of our program involves service learning, wherein students contribute to the community by applying the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies. This initiative aims to give back to the community through various forms of engagement, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and practical application of academic learning.
  • Experiential learning :- A vital aspect of our academic curriculum involves practical experience gained through industry engagement. This initiative is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the practical applications of statistics and exposure to the corporate environment.
  • Global Immersion Program :- A discretionary component of our academic framework includes participation in a global exchange program, typically integrated during a specific semester, to offer students valuable insights into international perspectives and practices. This initiative is crafted to provide students with a broader understanding of global dynamics, cultural diversity, and professional environments outside their home country.   • Indian Knowledge System(IKS) :- At Symbiosis Statistical Institute (SSI), the curriculum integrates the Indian knowledge system. Subjects like ‘Lilavati’ explore ancient mathematical principles, while sessions on ‘Kolam’, ‘Art integrated cultural education’ and ‘Culture and heritage’ delve into Statistical sciences-maths-art intersections. Additionally, students study the historical significance of ‘Forts of India’, reflecting on their cultural and strategic importance. This approach fosters an understanding of traditional Indian wisdom alongside modern statistics, preparing students with insights from India's heritage and contemporary challenges.

Award of Degree/ Diploma/ Certificate

This rigorous four-year, full-time honours program offers multiple entry and exit points:

  • Certificate in Applied Statistics and Data Science:
  1. Awarded upon completion of Semester II
  2. Requirements: Attain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 out of 10 and complete a 4-credit Vocational Course during the summer term.
  • Diploma in Applied Statistics and Data Science:
  1. Awarded at the end of Semester IV
  2. Requirements: Achieve a minimum CGPA of 4.00 out of 10 and complete a 4-credit Vocational Course during the summer term.
  • Bachelor of Science (Applied Statistics and Data Science) with a Minor in Business Studies:
  1. Conferred at the end of Semester VI
  2. Requirements: Obtain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 out of 10, based on overall performance in semester examinations.
  • Bachelor of Science (Applied Statistics and Data Science) Honors with a Minor in Business Studies:
  1. Awarded upon completion of Semester VIII
  2. Requirements: Maintain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 out of 10 based on cumulative semester performance.
  • Bachelor of Science (Applied Statistics and Data Science) Honors with Research with a Minor in Business Studies:
  1. Achieved at the end of Semester VIII
  2. Requirements: Maintain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 out of 10 based on overall performance, displaying aptitude for research.

Academic Schedule

The academic year spans from July/August to May/June, comprising eight semesters for the full-time four-year Honors program and six semesters for the three-year full-time program

Eligibility Criteria -

Std. XII (10 + 2) pass or equivalent examination from any recognized Board with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% Marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribes), with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

Students who wish to opt for Honours with Research must earn 7.5 CGPA and above at the end of Semester-6. Eligibility Criteria for the Multiple entries would be as per University’s Lateral Entry Rules for FYUG Programmes.
